PROVIDING COMFORT THROUGH THE STORM

Dear Friends,

In my role as Director of Philanthropic Endeavors, I’ve spent more than 40 years seeing firsthand the shock, loss, pain, grief, bewilderment, and despair that disasters—both natural and manmade—leave behind. As a survivor of hurricane Katrina, and losing everything myself, I know firsthand the effects a natural disaster can play on the psyche of those affected.  As a result, I’ve dedicated my life to responding to these life-changing events, leading the mission to bring physical, mental and spiritual relief to other survivors of natural disasters.

Disasters are not going to stop happening. We all can be assured that, we will face storms—storms that bring pain and loss; storms that leave aching hearts, broken lives, everywhere it touch,– storms that shattered hopes –storms that turn our brightest dreams into our worst nightmares in their wake. 

These difficult events remind us that we are small and vulnerable compared with the unpredictable and uncontrollable forces of nature. They remind us of the brevity of life and the urgency of making sure that we’re ready to stand before the Almighty at a moment’s notice. 

We need to focus not on what was torn down by the storms of life but, on what stands for eternity—the true love of the family, and it that LOVE that will give us the stability to move forward. It is that LOVE that will re-stabilize our lives, because LOVE is the most important thing. 

The love of the Almighty is stronger than disasters—stronger than death itself—and stronger than any storm you will ever face. 

The only question each of us must answer is this: What is my life’s foundation?

Generally, the world and the nation comes together to help when a natural disaster strikes. Whether the disaster is overseas or a state or two away, emergency aid and relief begin to flow almost immediately - cash donations, food, water, clothing, medical supplies is what’s needed. The US government even sends military assistance if needed.
